A JARROW centre is throwing open its doors to help boost health and fitness in the wider community.
Low Simonside Community Association, in Taunton Avenue, will stage an open day on Sunday, February 17, from 11am until 3pm.
Officials are keen to let local residents know what facilities are on offer to boost their health and fitness levels.
Centre vice-chairwoman Sylvia Arkle and fellow members posed on exercise machines for Gazette photographer Stu Norton to publicise next month’s event.
Christine Burns, the centre manager, said: “The gym is very popular with the community, especially since the word got out about being able to relax in the sauna after your workout, all for the one price of £2.60.
“People can join us at our open day, for the launch of our outdoor gym.
“We will have gym induction instructors on hand, to help people try everything out.”
The open day will also include everything from free NHS health checks to hoopla dancing.
There will also be a flower arranging demonstration, with visitors getting the chance to take a winning floral arrangement home.
Ms Burns added: “There will be lots more to show what Low Simonside CA has to offer, including some tasty snacks and refreshments, so there’s no need to dash home.”
Low Simonside CA is a base for dozens of community activities and classes, including a breakfast club, to help promote healthy eating.
The centre is also home to Bilton Hall Amateur Boxing Club and several other community groups.
