Pensioner who died on South Shields seafront is named

A PENSIONER who collapsed and died at South Shields seafront has been named.

Police were called to Sea Road after on Thursday after reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

He has now been named as 81-year-old William White, from Guisborough Street, Sunderland.

When ambulance services arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Police received report of concern for a man in Sea Road, South Shields at 1.05pm.

“Emergency services attended and along with the air ambulance and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There is believed to be no third-party involvement in the death.”

South Tyneside Coroner’s Office confirmed that an investigation in Mr White’s death had been opened and adjourned.
