YOUNG pirates took part in a day of swash-buckling fun at a popular community centre.

Dozens of youngsters at the St Simon’s Playgroup, in Wenlock Road, Simonside, South Shields, dressed in their finest seafaring gear to enjoy the pirate-themed disco- organised by the centre’s playgroup yesterday.

The day was also a chance for the playgroup to show what it has to offer to youngsters, aged from newborns to eight.

Playworker Kelly Burgess said: “We’ve been running activities all week to help raise the profile of the playgroup and also funds for the centre.

“St Simon’s Community Project relies heavily on donations and fund-raising to keep it going.

“The kids have had a great time, and they loved the visit by Peppa Pig and Jack Plug, the pirate DJ.

“During the week, we have also had Wizadora in to see the kids.”

The St Simon’s club is held every Monday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, with a bouncy castle and soft play.

Sessions costs £2.50 and youngsters must be supervised.

The St Simon’s playtots takes place every Wednesday for pre-school children. Session cost £1.50.
