A MOTHER and daughter team who devote their time to helping others have been given a new base to work from.

Since Cheryl McDonald and Lynne Davis launched Community Corner they have been inundated with donated goods.

Mrs Davis’s home is constantly piled high with goods the pair then sell to raise cash, which is then donated to causes across South Tyneside.

Now, thanks to Helen and Adam McKinnon, Community Corner has a new permanent base in which to store items and for people to drop things off.

Mr and Mrs Mckinnon, who own soft play area, Monkey Mayhem, on the Simonside Industrial Estate, stepped in to lend a helping hand to the pair after hearing about the work they do voluntarily for others by offering them space in the venue.

Miss McDonald, 27, said: “Everything was being stored at my mam’s house and we had so many items being donated it was taking over. I was at Monkey Mayhem and I was talking to Helen and she offered us the use of a room in the building.

“Being based at Monkey Mayhem is a huge help to us. It also means my mam can have her house back as people are now able to drop off their donations here.”

Community Corner, which was nominated for a 2014 Pride of South Tyneside Award, receives donations from the public which are then sold on a Facebook page.

The cash raised is then donated to causes throughout South Tyneside.

Already the mother and daughter team have helped children’s groups buy equipment and paid for high visibility vests for pupils at a school to wear whenever they are on trips.

The Women’s Refuge also benefits from the pair’s generosity.

Mrs McKinnon, who opened up the soft play area along with husband Adam, said: “When we heard about the Community Corner and what it does, we were only too happy to help Cheryl and Lynne.”

Donations can be dropped off at Monkey Mayhem – at Visage House, Shaftsbury Avenue, Simonside – every day between 9am and 6pm. For more information on Community Corner call 0779 441 8 011 or search for Community Corner on Facebook.
