Police are appealing for help to find two people who are believed to have fled the scene of a fatal accident early today.
Officers received a call at 4am to reports of a BMW 3 series on its roof at the roundabout junction of the Redheugh Bridge and Askew Road, Gateshead.
Emergency services attended, and one of the car's three occupants was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Two other men were taken to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
However, inquiries are on on-going to locate two other people who are also believed to have been in the vehicle, but failed to remain at the scene.
Northumbria Police appealed for anyone who saw the accident, has any information about those involved, or saw the car earlier to call 101.
