Police hunt pervert passenger who sexually assaulted woman on South Shields-bound bus

Police are hunting a pervert passenger who sexually assaulted a woman on a South Tyneside-bound bus.

 The man sat next to the female victim on the Stagecoach X34 bus before touching her inappropriately on the leg and trying to kiss her.

Anyone who is a victim of crime should inform police as soon as it is safe to do so.

 The woman told the offender to leave her alone before he moved to another seat and got off the bus 15 minutes after the incident.

Police are now launching an appeal for information into the attack, which took place at about 8.40pm on Monday, February 15.

 The man got on the bus at the Gateshead interchange and got off at Galworthy Road, South Shields, at about 8.55pm.

He is described as being white, around 6ft tall, in his early 30s and of slim build.

He has short brown hair, a sunken face and stubble.

His top front two teeth were crooked and he spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a black raincoat, blue jeans and trainers.

Police are eager to speak to a woman on the bus at the time who spoke to the victim and checked that she was OK.

Inquiries are being carried out in the Gateshead and South Shields area, and anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting reference number 557 19/02/16.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said; “We advise that anyone who is a victim of crime should move away from the situation and inform police as soon as it is safe to do so.

“If it is possible, they should alert the bus driver.

“We have had examples where a driver has been able to stop the bus and call for police assistance while the offender is onboard.”
