Police are appealing for information after a woman was raped in Newcastle.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "The incident occurred between 9.45pm and 10.30pm on Friday, March 25, when a 25-year-old woman was attacked on the Quayside.

"Officers believe she was walking along the Close, near to the Quayside bar, when she was dragged into an alley and raped.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and extra officers are carrying out patrols in the area and speaking to local residents and business owners.

"Specialist officers are supporting the victim and anyone with any information about the attack should contact police.

"Officers are especially keen to speak to anyone who was in the area last night and noticed anything unusual in the area of the attack. They should call 101 quoting reference number 1204 25/03/16 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
