A SOUTH Tyneside headteacher was rubbing shoulders with royalty today when he received a knighthood at Buckingham Palace.
Sir Ken Gibson, the head of Harton Technology College in South Shields, was honoured for his services to education - having transformed two failing secondary schools in recent years.
He was bestowed his title - conferred in the Queen’s Birthday Hounrs list - by the Duke of Cambridge at an investiture ceremony in London.
He said: “I’m just on top of the world. It was quite overwhelming.”
