Emergency services have been called to help Metro passengers after a power failure brought services to a stop.

An overhead line trip has led to Metro to suspend its services between North Shields and St James Park, tonight.

It is understood the problem was caused between Howdon and Hadrian Road.

Emergency services were called to help passengers after trains were brought to a standstill.

Tickets are being accepted on Go North East bus services 1 and 11 and Stagecoach 62 and 63

Meanwhile, a replacement bus service will start at 9pm to transport passengers between the affected stations.

People are being advised, where possible, to use alternative transport.
