A PUB boss is urging his punters to become lifesavers.

Scott Ramsay, manager of Kirkpatricks in South Shields, has thrown his weight behind our In Miley’s Memory campaign.

The campaign, launched by 14-week-old Miley Turbitt’s family, aims to encourage people to become organ donors.

Miley suffered from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and died last November while waiting for a heart to become available for a transplant.

Tonight, her elder sister, Yasmin Eckert, 19, and friends of hers will be in the Ocean Road pub from 9.30pm signing up people for the organ donation register.

Download a petition here and print it out for your friends and family to sign.

A petition will also be available for people to sign, calling for a change to the donation system to one in which people are registered automatically unless they opt out.

The campaign is not only being supported by Kirkpatricks but also by the company that owns the bar, the Stonegate Pub Company.

The Bedfordshire-based firm has pledged to highlight In Miley’s Memory in its 11 pubs in the North East.

Mr Ramsay said: “It’s such an excellent campaign and one our customers are already getting behind.

“People are proving they really do care, but it’s just that it was something, until now, they hadn’t thought about.

“This campaign is really making people think and talk about organ donation. The vast majority of people support what the family are trying to achieve.

“Kirkpatricks is a busy pub, and we hope as many people as possible will come through the doors and support this campaign.”

Miley’s family have organised a walk in memory of the 14-week-old.

Those interested in joining in the event are asked to make a £3 donation and meet at the Bamburgh pub in Bamburgh Avenue, South Shields, tomorrow no later than 4.30pm.
