A South Tyneside pub is hoping customers get behind staff as they bid to raise cash for charity.

The Bamburgh in South Shields has been set a target of raising £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer during this year.

We will be having an outdoor barbecue and outdoor bottle bar

Staff at The Bamburgh Avenue pub have already organised a range of events in a bid to meet their target.

Steph Hedley, assistant manager at the pub, said they are hoping to reach their target – and maybe event exceed it.

The pub is part of the Greene King chain and each of their premises are challenged to raise a target amount of money, depending on its size.

Steph said the first of their many events will be a Bake Off competition, where people can show their baking skills in a head-to-head contest.

Residents are invited to take their signature cakes along, at 2pm on May 1, and a team of taste testers will judge the winners. The cost to enter is £2 and forms can be picked up from the pub.

The pub will be holding a race night on May 12, starting at 8pm, to raise cash for the fund.

And, on Saturday, May 27, the pub will be holding a big family fun day with a range of activites and entertainment for everyone.

Steph said: “We will even be having a wet sponge the staff event.

“We will also be having an outdoor barbecue and an outdoor bottle bar – depending on the weather of course.”

Later in the summer, Steph and seven other members of staff will be taking on a Tough Mudder challenge, a five-mile mud obstacle course, to boost the target amount.
