A HAIRDRESSER is going back to the future by following in the footsteps of a famous town barber.

Stan Marsh ran barber’s shops in Mile End Road and, latterly, Flagg Court, both in South Shields, for more than half a century until his death last year.

Now, the Flagg Court shop has been taken over by Rachel Fada, and it is being run as Chapman’s Barber Shop.

She intends to keep up the same traditional values that Mr Marsh believed in.

Rachel explained: “I have been in men’s hairdressing for 12 years now.

“Like many people in the town, I remember Stan with great affection.

“I really admired the way he built his business based on good old-fashioned customer service, friendly chat and efficient styling.

“When the opportunity came to take on the shop, I jumped at the chance and with the help of business help group Tedco, I obtained information on setting up my business.

“I want to continue the tradition of a barber shop offering good styling to men and their kids.

“But I want to put my own stamp on it too, with a modern twist, given in a friendly, up-to-date environment.

“The precinct already has a ladies’ hairdresser in the row, so I think it’s time that men had an equal opportunity for a specialist shop of their own!”
