GOLDEN oldies Republica rocked South Tyneside’s seafront as scores of music lovers turned out for an open-air concert.

The techno-punk group – best known for their 1997 hits Ready To Go and Drop Dead Gorgeous, a No 13 and No 7 respectively – were the headline attraction at the ampitheatre at Sandhaven, in South Shields, on Saturday.

Lead singer Samantha Sprackling, known as Saffron, and the Berkshire band, formed in 1994 and reunited in 2008 after splitting up seven years previously, were supported by The Ambassadors.

Hundreds of fans turned out to enjoy the show.

The evening formed a finale to a series of free live music events held at the venue throughout June.
