A BEAUTY salon has picked up a prestigious new prize.

Cleadon’s Janice Eggleston Health and Beauty beat four other contenders to be named North-East beauty salon of the year at a national award ceremony.

It took that title at the second English Hair and Beauty Awards, held in Manchester.

Other awards were handed out in classes including hair salon, stylist and beauty therapist of the year.

Owner Janice went along to the ceremony at the city’s Midlands Hotel to pick up her prize.

She said: “It was a complete surprise to me because I didn’t even know we had been nominated.

“I got the call to say we were one of the finalists, and at first, I thought someone was winding me up.

“It was quite a big occasion and there were probably around 300 people there. I was shocked when we won.”

The 41-year-old has been in the beauty industry for 23 years and has owned the salon for the last 10.

“It’s coincidental, but a nice surprise to win the award in our 10th year,” she said.

“There are five of us who work at the salon, and I’m lucky because I’ve got lovely staff, and we have a wonderful clientele who have been coming to us for years.

“I would like to thank whoever nominated us for the award.

“This means more than some of the awards given by companies which are dependent on sales because someone has gone out of their way to put us forward for it.”

“I would like to thank all of the people who voted for us.”

“I would definitely like to be nominated again next year.

“Now that I know what it is, all of us will go to the event, and I won’t just take my husband, like I did this time.”
