SANTA Claus is being drafted in tomorrow to help ongoing efforts to secure the future of a South Tyneside community centre.

Volunteers at St Simon’s Community Project in Simonside, South Shields, have to raise £2,000 before the year is out to save the complex.

A Christmas fair is being staged tomorrow from 1pm in a bid to help them hit that target. Entry is free.

In addition to an appearance from Santa, attractions will include raffles, cake stalls and a horse-naming competition.

The toy horse was a donation to the centre from Boldon offshore company Aims.

The Wenlock Road centre hosts activities including advice sessions for jobseekers, play times for children and a parent-and-toddler group, with 350 people attending a week.

If you can help save the centre, call 424 0690.
