The clock is ticking for community groups across South Tyneside to register their interest in taking part in this year’s Summer Festival Parade.
Once Upon a Time is the theme - with courageous heroes, magical creatures, beautiful princesses all set to feature in the event.
The parade, which will be put together and co-ordinated by The Creative Seed - run by husband and wide team Garner and Sandy Harris - will take place on Saturday July 1.
Community groups and schools are all being invited to take part in the event, which will see people of all ages walk the route from South Shields Town Hall to the Bents Park, via Fowler Street and Ocean Road.
In the run up to the event, the couple will be working with local schools, dance troupes and community groups to help them to develop creative ideas and choreography, as well as costume ideas and colourful decorations for the floats.
This year’s theme was chosen to celebrate the opening of The Word, National Centre of the Written Word in South Shields.
Speaking at the launch Mr Harris said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring to life an array of intriguing characters and exciting stories from children’s storytelling on the streets of South Shields.”
A meeting for interested groups will take place at The Word on Tuesday at 6.30pm where they will be able to find out more.
To register your group’s interest call Karri Prinn on 424 7986 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to advise if you can make the meeting, or if you can’t attend but are still interested in taking part.
