Show will help teen’s South America dream

EXPEDITION ... Lauren Devine and Serena Khan.

TALENTED teenagers are to put on a show to help a schoolgirl turn a dream trip into a reality.

Lauren Devine has launched fundraising to find £650 for her place in a team going to South America later this year.

While there, the 16-year-old, who beat thousands of hopefuls for the chance to take part, will help deprived communities in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.

To help get her there, teenagers from South Tyneside will put on a show at South Shields Town Hall.

The event, on May 9, will be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress Jim and Rosemary Sewell.

Family friend Serena Khan, who has organised the event, said: “The response has been amazing and we have already sold more than 50 tickets.

“Lauren is looking forward to going on this trip and is determined to raise the money needed. Hopefully, this show will help compliment the other ventures Lauren has already taken part in, and help her reach her fundraising goal.”

The show, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, will feature bands including Estoria and dance groups including the Dynamite Girls.

Monies raised will go towards the cash needed to help the St Joseph’s RC Comprehensive School pupil achieve her dream.

The month-long trip has been organised by charity Journey of a Lifetime.

Every two years the charity organises expeditions for groups of young people which are challenging and character-building.

The trips are aimed at helping young people grow in confidence.

Lauren, from Jarrow, said: “I’m really starting to get really excited about the trip now.”

For tickets, priced £2 for children and £3 for adults, contact Serena Khan on 07795 542 287.
