A South Shields barman reduced X Factor judges to tears with a song about his broken heart.

Aidan Martin performed his original song Punchline at his audition for the hit show which dealt with the end of a relationship.

His performance left judge Sharon Osbourne was watery-eyed along with fans of the ITV programme followed suit, with many writing on social media that they were sobbing after his emotional performance.

Praising his performance, Sharon said: "It was beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

"It was just perfect."

Even judge Simon Cowell agreed and said that it was a "very special audition."

The delighted contestant then left with four 'yeses' from the panel.

On social media fans were quick to add their praise with one positing on Twitter: "Fully crying at this guy Aidan and his song, it was actually touching."

Another said: "Flipping heck - Aidan Martin on @TheXFactor Jas just broken me!

"Sat here sobbing; just beautiful and so heartfelt."
