South Shields remembers tragic young Manchester bombing victims

Mourners packed a South Shields church today for the funeral of a "perfect" young couple who were killed in the Manchester Arena bombing.

The service for Liam Curry, 19, and Chloe Rutherford, 17, took place this morning at St Hilda's Church in South Shields.

The teenagers, who were described as "inseparable", were among the 22 people killed in the terror attack on the Ariana Grande concert last month.

The couple's families asked people attending to wear pink and blue for the funeral.

Flowers in the hearses which carried them to the church spelled out the words "Sis" and "Son Liam".

Two white coffins bedecked with flowers were carried in to the church together, to the strains of Perfect by Ed Sheeran.

During the service, there was a beautiful rendition of the Ariana Grande song One Last Time by South Shields actor-musician Stacey Ghent.

The Reverend Chris Fuller, leading the service, paid tribute to the tragic young couple.

He said: "Chloe and Liam were and still are an image of love.

"They were inseparable in life, they are both inseparable in death, and now they are inseparable with the angels in heaven."

The church was packed, and hundreds more people gathered outside to pay their respects.

The coffins left to a recording of Chloe singing her version of Keane's Somewhere Only We Know.

She was studying music at college and was about to start an apprenticeship in travel.

Liam was studying for a degree in sport and exercise science at Northumbria University in Newcastle.
