South Shields travel agent names in top eight in the country

Gillian Vogel, from Westoe Travel, South Shields, was named as a finalist in the High Street Travel Agent of the Year category of the TTG Travel Awards held at the Lyceum Theatre in London.

The 33-year-old has worked for the company for 20 years and beat off stiff competition to be shortlisted for the award during the prestigious ceremony.

She said: “I love my job and helping customers to plan their dream holiday. I’m very proud to have got this recognition.”

Gillian started her travel industry career at the company owned by her parents Graeme and Joan Brett at the age of 13, helping them out on Saturdays.

During her career she has spent time in America, Australia, America, Canada and Africa and has lived in Japan for 18-months.

She specialises in long haul and cruise sales and Mr Brett says her own travel experience has helped further her knowledge of the travel industry.

He said: “I am doubly proud of this achievement both as Gillian’s dad and on behalf of all of the team at Westoe Travel.

“As a family business that has been based in South Shields for 28 years it is a very proud day for us.”

Westoe Travel is an independent travel company launched.

Earlier this year, the company was voted Best Small Travel Agent and Best Travel Agent for UK and Short Breaks.
