A restaurant bringing culinary delights of Europe to South Tyneside is aiming to tantalise people’s tastebuds with its new Asian range.

Otto Fusion Restaurant, based within the Hedworth Hall, is expanding its range of dishes on offer to customers as it steps up a gear in the catering trade.

The business venture run by Carl Mowatt is ready to celebrate its second year.

It started by offering a range of European-inspired dishes catering for both adults and children.

Last year, it introduced its gluten-free options after feedback from customer.

Now, the team is going further by offering a new Thai-based menu in addition to its popular favourites, including its traditional Sunday carvery with the latest recruit to the kitchen, Wanida Ponton.

Manager Mr Mowatt said: “We are always looking for new ways to enhance the dining experience for our customers and families.

“We asked for customer feeback on the introduction of Thai dishes in addition to those we already offered, and the feedback was really positive.

“We have been extremely lucky in that we have managed to secure the talents of Wanida Ponton – who was a popular chef at the Maltings – and the response to the dishes that are being served up to customers has been outstanding.

“We have had great feedback from customers who say the range of dishes is fantastic, as it now means there is something for everyone.

“I don’t think there is any other restaurant in South Tyneside who is offering the range we are.

“They are either Italian, Indian or Thai – there’s not many places if any that do a crossover.”

The restaurant is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from noon, with the traditional carvery served on Sundays. Mr Mowatt added: “There is a real feel-good atmosphere around the building.

With the recent opening of Monte Carlos Cocktail Bar and Lounge, it has really taken the venue up a gear.

“We are also noticing people are coming in earlier to enjoy a drink or aperitif before their meal, and are also staying for longer following their meals.

“The venue has a great new feeling and we are all looking forward to seeing what the future brings.”
