A CURRY restaurant is aiming to cook up a storm for a charity supporting good causes throughout South Tyneside.
The borough’s Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Fay Cunningham and Stella Matthewson, are taking over the Asha Balti Restaurant, in Ocean Road, South Shields, on Tuesday, August 12.
The pair will be hosting a curry night in aid of the Mayor’s charity.
This year, it is supporting Cancer Connections in South Shields, St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow and the South Shields branch of the Mission to Seafarers.
The charity is also supporting the Kayaks Club and Arts 4 Wellbeing, both in South Shields, and South Tyneside’s three sea cadet units.
Coun Cunningham said: “I’d like to thank Dilwar Hussain and his team for allowing us to host a fundraising night at the Asha.
“I’ve attended fundraising nights at the restaurant in the past, and they have always been great events.
“It is a great opportunity for people to enjoy some superb food and good company while also raising money for the Mayor’s charity.”
The night is one of a number of events being held throughout the mayoral year to raise cash for good causes.
Doors to the curry night will open at 7pm. A raffle will also be held on the night, with a range of prizes up for grabs.
Tickets, priced £10, are available from the civic office by calling 424 7256 or 424 7311.
