THE launch of a new sports club at a South Tyneside community centre has been hailed a success by organisers.
CE Sports, which is organised by Paul Kirton, is running weekly football sessions from Low Simonside Community Association, in Taunton Avenue, Jarrow.
The group hosted a family sports day to mark its launch at the venue, with hundreds of youngsters turning up to find out what will be on offer from next week.
The event also saw children given the chance to take part in a mini-football tournament –with each one receiving a medal for playing – and there was a barbecue and car boot sale.
Mr Kirton said: “Everyone who attended seemed to have a great day, with a lot of parents asking about what we do and what we’ll be offering at Low Simonside.
“People were saying it was about time something was put in place for the children on the estate.
“We started at Chuter Ede Community Centre with one night a week and, after being inundated with young people, we are now running sessions every night of the week.
“When we were asked if we would run activities in Low Simonside, we thought the time was right to start expanding.”
CE Sports already runs mini-soccer camps, football and game station sessions from Chuter Ede Community Centre, in Galsworthy Road, South Shields, and hopes to replicate its success in Jarrow.
Sessions will run from Low Simonside CA every Thursday, starting August 7.
Activities start at 5pm until 6pm for those aged between four and six, and from 6pm-7pm for those aged seven and over.
