A stricken vessel is being towed into Sunderland harbour after it got into difficulty in the North Sea.

A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said a distress call was received from a vessel about a mile off Souter Point at about 3.30pm.

The call was about a second vessel nearby, which was believed to be taking in water. It is in the process of being towed to Sunderland harbour.
