A SOUTH Shields dance teacher is hoping to bring yet another title home as he heads to Mr Gay Europe.
Stuart Hatton became the first North East man to win the title of Mr Gay UK last year.
Now, the 28-year-old, who is co-principal at his family dance studios, The Hatton Academy of Dance, in Commercial Road, South Shields, is off to represent the nation in Mr Gay Europe.
Stuart will fly to Vienna, in Austria, on June 7, before going on a tour of Europe with the other contestants. The final of the competition will take place in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 14,
Stuart will compete in a number of rounds, including demonstrating a talent, making a speech, and modelling swimwear, in a bid to win the title.
He said: “They’re looking for an all-rounded guy to represent the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. I’m really excited to be going to the finals, but it’s really scary as well. I’m just a lad from South Shields, but I’m going to be representing the whole of the UK in a European event.
“I feel really honoured, proud and humbled to be representing the UK at this event – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Stuart and the other contestants have been asked to take a present representing their country, to give to their room-mate.
Stuart said: “I think I’m going to put together a box of gifts and wrap it in Union Jack paper.
“I’m going to put a little red bus in it and a TARDIS, a jar of sand from the beach, a Geordie dictionary, and Spice Girls’ greatest hits – that has to go in there.
“It would be amazing to do it for the UK though, no one from the UK has ever won before.”
