The wait is almost over.

Sunderland’s seafront Fast Buddha restaurant finally throws opens its doors to the public on Monday.
Partners Bob Senior and Eddie Fung had hoped open the venue at Seaburn last year, but were left frustrated by a series of unforeseen delays. The Echo revealed a fortnight ago that fitting out was well under way and Bob was hoping to be open by the end of the month.
Now the work is almost complete and the Fat Buddha has welcomed its first diners, with opening evenings this week for invited guests including family and friends and representatives of the seafront traders’ group.
With everything having gone according to plan, Bob is now looking forward to welcoming customers.
“It is all go for Monday,” he said.
The Fat Buddha will be taking a limited number of bookings at first to ensure everything goes as planned and limit any teething troubles.
“For a limited period we will be keeping the numbers low” said Bob.
“We understand that with a new restaurant, people are going to be expecting a lot, so we are going to open with low numbers, just to make sure we give everybody the best experience we can while we find our feet.”
The long wait has been extremely frustrating for Bob and he is delighted the big day has finally arrived.
“I am pleased we can finally open,” he said.
“It has been such a long wait, we appreciate, and we hope that when people do see it, they will like it.”
Mark Earnshaw was the designer behind the Fat Buddha’s distinctive look and believes it will play a major role in attracting people to the seafront.
“This is the thing that will create interest and trigger investment to get this whole development going,”he said.
“When something like this opens,it benefits the area because everybody ups their game.
“It means the area becomes known for food.”
