A TOP South Tyneside manufacturer is engineering a new push for a campaign to help North East charities fight poverty.

Hi-tech components manufacturer Ford Aerospace Limited and Ford Component Manufacturing Limited is looking for other businesses and individuals to back its TCP initiative – tins, clothes and paperbacks – by regularly giving items.

The project was recently boosted by the donation of hundreds of second-hand paperbacks from The Galsworthy School in South Shields, ahead of its move to new premises.

South Tyneside recruitment firm Zenith People and specialist battery supplier Cellpack Solutions regularly donate to the campaign, and business tenants at The Quadrus Centre, Boldon, have also been generous.

Now Ford is urging yet more donors to come forward in a bid to help the needy.

Company chairman, Geoff Ford MBE, said: “Whatever a company’s background and whatever it does, it can get involved in our TCP initiative.

“I’d love South Tyneside to become a major contributor to the essential work the Cyrenians and iCan do across the North East.

“We all have paperbacks that we’ve read and will never read again.

“They could easily be donated and put towards helping other people.”

Ford had initially planned to work with the Cyrenians for six months, but has now agreed to extend that support.

Ford’s charity committee will give donations of books and clothes to the Cyrenians, a charity which works to alleviate poverty and homelessness, with many donations reaching its shop in Eldon Square, Newcastle.

Tins will be donated to iCan, which helps fight food poverty.

Items can be dropped off at designated points at the firm’s two South Tyneside factories – Ford Aerospace Limited, within Port of Tyne, at Tyne Dock, and Ford Component Manufacturing Limited, at Monkton Business Park North, Hebburn.

For those donating in bulk, Ford will offer a collection service. For further information on how to get involved, call 454 0141.
