A SOUTH Tyneside teenage beauty is in the running for a city title.
Megan Brennan is hoping to be crowned Miss Newcastle.
The 17-year-old, from Jarrow, came third in the competition last year, and is hoping her experience will help her take the top spot this time round.
Megan, who is studying beauty therapy at South Tyneside College, was named the Gazette’s Face Of South Tyneside in 2011, and works for Tyne Tees Models.
She said: “I’m hoping that being in the contest last year will give me a bit of a head start, because I’ll know what to expect. I’d love to win this year and represent Newcastle at Miss England.
“I would do my best to represent us in a good way. I’m not sure how I’d feel if I won – it would just be amazing.”
Each of the girls must compete in a swimwear and evening wear round, as well as answering questions at the final, which is set to be held at Newcastle Civic Centre on May 17.
The contestants are also charged with raising money for charity, the Sunshine Fund, which aims to provide specialised equipment to children with disabilities in the North East.
Megan added: “Being in Miss Newcastle is really fun and I made a lot of friends when I took part last year.
“The Sunshine Fund is a great cause as well and it’s nice that they ask all the contestants to raise money for it.
“I’m hoping to raise as much as I can, so I’ll be getting my friends and family on board to help me out.
“All the girls will be organising their own individual events, but we do some together as well.
“We’re doing a tree-top assault course soon. That’ll be a lot of fun.
“Being named Miss Newcastle would just be amazing, and I’m really going to go for it.”
