THREE teenagers have danced their way to top spot at an international contest.

Emily Tiffin, 17, Ellie Stafford and Josie Harbertson, both 13, were all crowned champions at a recent contest held at the Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields.

The event, run by Theatre Dance Council International, is an annual competition, which sees performers compete from across the North East.

It was Emily, from South Shields, who danced her way to picking up the championship trophy in the senior tap section, and Josie, also from South Shields, won the junior modern category.

Emily, who is from Sunderland, won the junior tap championship trophy.

All three girls, who have been dancing since the age of three, are students at Lumsdale Theatre Arts in Beach Road, South Shields.

Dance teacher Caren Lumsdale said: “It was such an exciting competition.

“There were four championship titles and we won three of them, which was fantastic.

“Everyone was so pleased for the girls.

“Emily is coming up to the end of her competitive days and may not be competing in the contest next year, so to go out as a champion was really nice for her.

“It was also Ellie’s first championship win, so everyone was thrilled for her.

“The girls work really hard and I’m proud of what they have achieved.”
