THREE people were taken to hospital after two cars collided in South Tyneside.
Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to Newcastle Road, at its junction with Shaftesbury Avenue South Shields, at 6.10am today, after a taxi and a car collided.
The cabbie suffered a head wound, while one woman injured a hip and the other had chest pains.
Police closed the road for three hours from the John Reid Road roundabout to the accident scene, while firefighters cut one of the women out of a car.
All three were taken to South Tyneside District Hospital for treatment.
