Two hurt as South Shields road closed by rush-hour crash


A BUSY South Tyneside road is closed after a rush-hour crash in which a woman and young child were injured.

The accident happened in Stanhope Road, South Shields, at about 4.50pm.

A Nissan Qashqai ended up on its side after it was in collision with a van.

A woman and a young child are understood to have suffered minor injuries and been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, and part of the road was closed while the vehicles were removed.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said they expect it to reopen within an hour.
