A tree at a South Tyneside housing complex has been given a Christmas makeover to help the residents get into the festive spirit.
The existing large Leylandi tree in the gardens at Farding Lake Court, in Marsden, has been adorned with festive illuminations to bring Christmas cheer to local people.
South Tyneside Homes worked with its partners within South Tyneside Council and Balfour Beatty to light the tree up for this year’s festive season.
The tree features 1,500 low energy lights which were installed last year to remain in place all year and be switched on over the Christmas period.
The initiative has been supported by the East Shields and Whitburn Community Area Forum and welcomed by the Whitburn and Marsden ward members, councillors Peter Boyack, Tracey Dixon and Joyce Welsh.
Speaking on behalf of the three Whitburn and Marsden ward members, Coun Dixon, said: “On an evening the Christmas tree looks beautiful all lit up. On these dark winter nights I am sure it will help residents and visitors to Marsden get into the Christmas spirit.
“We are delighted to be able to support this initiative which has brought so much joy and Christmas cheer to the residents of Farding Lake Court. I would like to thank all those involved in lighting up the tree for their help in making this happen.”
