There was misery for Metro passengers in South Tyneside on Sunday as an overhead line fault meant no trains were running between South Shields and Hebburn for around eight hours.
A replacement 900 bus service was introduced, initially running every 30 minutes before the frequency was increased to approximately every 15 minutes.
The service finally resumed just before 4pm.
A message posted on the Tyne and Wear Metro Twitter account read: "Service has resumed between Hebburn and South Shields, subject to delays. Thank you for your patience."
