VIDEO: Beach and cliffs cordoned off after body find

POLICE this afternoon cordoned off part of the South Tyneside coastline as they recovered a body.

The beach and clifftop path at Frenchman’s Bay, South Shields, were closed off at lunchtime so the woman’s body could be removed.

The body was found on the coast at Marsden today by officers searching for missing Pauline Whitfield.

Mrs Whitfield has been missing since she left the Mecca Bingo club, in South Shields, on Thursday at about 9.30pm.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said they were not yet in a position to identify the woman.

He said: “Police searching missing South Shields woman Pauline Whitfield have found a body.

“The body has not yet been identified.”

The find comes after police released CCTV images of Mrs Whitfield, 63, which were taken inside the bingo hall hours before she disappeared.
