A MUM told of her terror after the roof of her was blown off in today’s high winds.
Janice Peel has lived in the same maisonette in Victoria Road, South Shields, for the last 44 years.
But this morning the property’s felt roof nded up in bushes across the street as the borough took a fierce battering from the elements.
Now she is waiting to be re-housed by the council while repairs to her home are carried out.
She said: “I heard a big bang. I had no idea what had happened.
“My son Ryan was in his bedroom and was just getting up and ran in and said ‘our roof’s caved in!’. I said ‘whose roof?’ and he said it was ours.
“I don’t want to move, but we can’t stay here. Who’s to say the roof won’t cave in and kill us?”
