A BOLDON school and a Whitburn beauty spot are to play a big role in making a televised religious extravaganza in South Tyneside into a success.
Great North Passion – the ambitious re-telling of Christ’s last hours – will be broadcast live from South Shields’ Bents Park on BBC One on Good Friday. In the weeks leading up to Good Friday, a number of shipping containers will be housed within communities across the North East.
Each container will have an associated artist who will work with the local community to transform the giant steel box into a work of art representing one of the Stations of the Cross before they are then joined together in Bents Park to form a huge cross-shaped installation.
Souter Lighthouse in Whitburn and Boldon Comprehensive School have been chosen as locations for containers.
The Great North Passion will be broadcast live on BBC One from Bents Park at noon on Friday, April 18, and was commissioned by BBC Religion and Ethics.
