Snowdog hunters are flocking to the Tyne and Wear Metro in their thousands as they scour the North East to complete their collection.
Nexus, which owns and manages Metro, says it has seen a significant increase in leisure travel and travel by families since the Great North Snowdog Trail began in September.
Now it has launched the first of three planned family walking guides with routes linking Metro stations to Snowdogs and nearby local attractions.
The first guide covering routes in Sunderland, Tynemouth and South Shields, can be downloaded from www.nexus.org.uk/metro/snowdogs.
There are 61 Snowdogs on the Great North Snowdog trail and there are a further 100 smaller Snowdogs which have been designed by local schools and community groups.
John Fenwick, Director of Finance and Resources at Nexus, said: “Metro is the leading sponsor for Great North Snowdogs because the trail is a great way for people to explore the towns and cities the system serves in a new way – and thousands of families are now doing just that.
“Our website is packed with information about family tickets, limited edition Pop smart cards and handy guides to help you and your family hunt for Snowdogs.”
The public transport operator said since the Great North Snowdogs trail began in September, Nexus has seen an eight per cent rise in the sale of Daysaver tickets, as well as a rise in the sale of Pop smartcards.
