POLICE have warned the public to be on the alert for a hungry owl which could attack them for food.
The Bengal eagle owl was reported missing two weeks from its owner’s home in Jutland Avenue, Hebburn.
It is 18in tall, cream, grey and dark brown, and has a three-and-a-half foot wingspan.
The bird flew off in the direction of Pelaw and Bill Quay, but could be anywhere in the area.
The RSPB has been informed, and people are asked to keep an eye out for the bird and report any sightings to the police on 101, quoting reference number 329 240414.
However, it is thought the owl will be hungry after being missing for so long, and officers say there’s a possibility it could swoop at people carrying food.
