After hearing of a pioneering treatment abroad called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT), Mr George from Wilton Gardens, Boldon, is hoping to undergo the procedure which offers the possibility of slowing, if not stopping, the progression of his MS.

Mr George launched a fundraising appeal nearly two months ago to cover the cost of the treatment which he hopes to receive at a clinic in either Russia or Mexico.

The fund has now reached about £6,520.

In his video appeal, the a former construction worker describes the terrifying moment when, aged just 30, he noticed his sight had become blurred while he was driving to work.

The condition has now advanced to the stage where he cannot work and has difficulty walking and standing unaided.

He was rushed to hospital where he was eventually told by doctors that he had MS.

Mr George says: “This happened literally in a blink of an eye.

“I was driving to Leicester and I noticed number plates weren’t making any sense.

“I went to see the optician and they wanted to admit me into Leicester Royal Infirmary on the spot. Eventually they came back with MS as my diagnosis.

“I am at the mercy of the disease.”

He added: “As far as I am concerned I am up against the clock and I need to get this treatment done as quick as I possibly can.”

Mr George extends his thanks to a woman he knows only as A. Gilliland who posted him a cheque and all those who have donated to his fundraising page so far.
