LOCAL hero Mark Knopfler is heading a star-studded line-up which will rock this year’s Great North Run.
The rock legend, who penned the iconic song Local Hero, will be performing on NewcastleGateshead Quayside for the Great North Run Million Ceremony.
The Dire Straits guitarist will open the ceremony on September 4 to mark the Bupa Great North Run becoming the first event in the world to achieve the millionth finish at this year’s half marathon.
The event will feature live music, film and a huge dance performance, as well as other high-profile appearances.
Also contributing to the evening’s musical line-up are Northumberland-based folk group The Unthanks, as well as nationally acclaimed multi-platinum selling dance duo Chase & Status.
North East-born Jill Halfpenny, who won an Olivier Award for her performance in Legally Blonde, will be telling the story of an impressive history of North East ‘world firsts’, as written by acclaimed local author David Almond.
The event will also feature a fireworks display over the Tyne as well as a special performance from renowned Lords of Lightning with their spectacular light display.
Tickets for the event are on sale at www.gnrmillion.org, priced at £12 for adults and £7 for children.
