Temple plan is under fire

I write the following with an equal combination of disgust and annoyance. Bad enough that over the passage of time the labour dominated S.T.C. neglected the bandstand and public loo, known locally as Gandhi’s Temple, thereby leaving it in a state of bear dereliction before palming it off to the owner of a fish and chip restaurant in Ocean Road, where plans are afoot for it to be integrated into yet another seaside eating place, with no hope whatsoever of the whole caboodle blending in with its surrounding field of vision.

Also it’s bad enough that work on the aforementioned structure couldn’t have begun until after the Great North Run, but what really takes the biscuit is when the whole ghastly concept is complete it will be named ‘Colman’s Seafood Temple.’
