JARROW'S bid for runners-up spot in the Wearside League suffered a blow when they were held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours Boldon CA.

Jarrow will probably need to win their last two matches if they are to pip Whitehaven to second spot behind champions New Marske.

The game was a fiesty and fiery affair at times, with Boldon having a player sent off late on for a bad tackle.

Regular marksman David Hopper gave Boldon the advantage in the 52nd minute.

But on 68 minutes, Craig Armstrong replied for Jarrow, who host fifth-top Ryhope CW on Saturday, before completing their programme at Annfield Plain next Wednesday.

Jarrow are third, two points behind Whitehaven with a game in hand on the Cumbrians, who sign off at home to bottom club Silksworth Community on Saturday, and will be firm favourites to claim all three points.
