HEBBURN Town's Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup tie beat the weather last night, but they couldn't defeat Sunderland RCA.

Rob Marsden's men put up a brave fight after going 3-0 down early on in the game, but couldn't pull off a great comeback.

Peter Benson marked his RCA debut with a goal after just two minutes, before Mick Coghlan split the Hebburn defence for Mark Davison to double their lead.

Davison made it three after just 28 minutes, but Shaun Carroll reduced the arrears before the interval.

And when he was on target again after the break the tie was in the balance, but Hebburn couldn't find an equaliser.
