The two Northern League Division Two sides produced a feast of football for the spectators, which ended in a 3-3 draw.
It could have been so different for Hebburn, however, as they led 3-1 with just five minutes left on the clock, only to be pegge
d back by a spirited Roofing side.
And while the equaliser had a whiff of controversy about it, it didn't detract from an excellent game of football.
Roofing dominated the opening exchanges, and looked as if they could put the game out of Hebburn's reach, with Chris Archer opening the scoring on 10 minutes from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Chris Neil.
Hebburn goalkeeper Gary Frater - in for the absent regular stopper Anthony Dixon - was beaten on this occasion, but produced a number of good stops against his former side to prevent them increasing their lead in the first quarter of an hour.
And Hebburn came storming back to control the rest of the half - and went in 3-1 up at the interval.
Shaun Carroll seized on a loose ball to slot home the equaliser, then volleyed home from a free-kick.
And three minutes later, Michael Armstrong lost his marker to fire home.
Only a superb goal-line clearance by Anthony Myers prevented Paul Hodgson from reducing the arrears, while at the other end, Roofing keeper Adam Dowell saved a Finbar Lynch free-kick, before denying Armstrong in the 83rd minute.
That miss proved to be costly, as two minutes later Phil Graham headed home from a corner.
And with just a minute left on the clock, the referee awarded Roofing a free-kick 10 yards from goal after adjudging Frater had been time-wasting.
The in-form Archer stepped up to rifle home and earn his side a share of the spoils, and Eifion Williams could even have won it for Roofing after that.
