JARROW Roofing produced one of the performances of the weekend in the FA Cup as they disposed of a highly-fancied Spennymoor side 2-1.
Roofing were relegated from Division One of the Northern League last season, and Moors must have fancied their chances in the Extra Preliminary Round fixture on Saturday.

But it was sweet revenge for Roofing, who were thumped by Spennymoor at the end of last season.

Roofing took the lead on 16 minutes when Kevin Davison struck a superb 30-yard free-kick which whistled into the top corner, giving the Spennymoor keeper no chance.

But on 51 minutes, Moors were level as Jamie Clark robbed Phil Graham outside the box and fired past Adam Dowell to equalise.

Davison was proving to be a thorn in the side of the Moors rearguard, however, and after a terrific run past three defenders, he was upended in the box, and Chris Archer stepped up to convert the penalty.

Roofing them held on for the last 17 minutes to claim an excellent victory.

Boss Richie McLoughlin said: "We should have been four up by half-time, with their keeper making four great stops to deny Eifion Williams twice and Chris Archer twice.

"It was the same after half-time, with the same two players testing their keeper with another five good chances.

"And with Davison ripping them apart from the wing, and Ryan Jenkins running the centre of midfield, the better side won, which was great after our last game with Spennymoor last season, when we lost 6-0."
