SOUTH SHIELDS are hoping a home draws in the FA Cup this weekend will bring financial reward.
The Mariners entertain Selby Town at Filtrona Park, hoping to build on a narrow 3-2 victory over Seaham Red Star on Monday night, while Roofing host Bridlington Town.

Seaham, ironically, were Selby's last opponents in the FA Cup, beating the Northern League side 3-1 earlier this month in the Extra Preliminary Round.

It meant Shields boss Gary Steadman could pick the brains of his opposite number at Seaham about tomorrow's opponents.

And he is confident his side will have more than enough to progress against the Northern Counties East Premier League outfit.

Steadman said: "Selby beat Seaham earlier this season, but Seaham's manager said that if we play like we did on Monday, then we should beat them.

"A victory will get a fair few quid into the club, which always helps.

"The winners get £1,500, and it would be good for the club to go on a cup run."

Steadman was pleased with his side's performance in the win over Red Star, although it should have been a lot more comfortable had they taken their chances.

And he must decide whether to stick with the 4-3-3 system he operated in that game, or revert back to a more conventional 4-4-2.

Willie Crew, Mark Johnson and Tony Coe were the three-pronged strike-force against Seaham, but with Shields welcoming back left-sided players Craig Russell and Michael Rodenby for tomorrow's game, Steadman has more options at his disposal.

Marc Brocklehurst is on holiday, but he should be replaced by Simon Fitzpatrick, who returned from a back problem on Monday.

Full-back Karl Jarvis, however, looks set to miss the game with a hamstring strain.
