SOUTH Shields are hoping their Filtrona Park pitch holds up for tomorrow's Northern League Division One relegation clash with Bedlington Terriers.

The Mariners are bottom of the table, with boss Gary Steadman admitting the situation is new to him.

Bedlington have picked up of late, and won 1-0 against Morpeth in midweek, but the game represents a good chance for Shields to get three points after their match against Tow Law Town on Tuesday night was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Steadman said: "I've been told that if there isn't any more rain, the pitch should be OK.

"I went to watch Bedlington on Wednesday and the pitch was really heavy, but Bedlington are a physical team and it suited them.

"We're more of a footballing side, but when the pitches start to get heavy we'll have to answer those sort of questions."

Shields should be able to call on Tony Coe's services, but are without Karl Jarvis and long-term absentee Lee Paul Scroggins.
