WEARSIDE League side Harton and Westoe have been rocked by a financial bombshell that threatens the existence of the club.
Harton's main sponsor has withdrawn all funding, leaving the club with just four days to find £3,000 – or face folding.
Secretary Bill Wells and manager Michael Hutchinson are desperate to keep the outfit going, but know they face a race against time.
The club have already resigned from the Wearside League, and have until Monday to revoke the decision if they can come up with the finances.
Hutchinson admitted: "Unfortunately, the main sponsor has withdrawn all funding.
"The club has therefore entered its resignation into the Wearside Football League due to no financial funding available.
"We need any local businessmen or businesses out there who could sponsor the team in the coming 2008/09 season to come forward so we can revoke the resignation.
"We require a minimum £3,000 to continue, and confirmation by Monday.
"It would be a sad loss after the resignation of Cleadon last season, and will leave the borough with only two Wearside League teams.
"We have a good young side – an average age of 19 – with excellent playing facilities and new floodlights.
"We made great strides last season, and we were hoping to build on that.
"I have been working on getting players to come to pre-season training, but all that's had to be put on hold."
Anyone who can step forward and save Harton and Westoe should contact Wells on 07710 021495 or Hutchinson on 07954 676013.
