JARROW Roofing got their league campaign back on track by beating North Shields 1-0 last night.
The Roofers moved up to seventh in the Northern League Division Two thanks to a third-minute strike from a Kevin Davison free-kick.

Davison had earned the free-kick himself, after being tripped outside the penalty area, and his shot flew into the top left-hand corner, leaving North Shields keeper David Lanning a spectator.

It should have been 2-0 on 15 minutes when Chris Archer did well to get in behind the defence on the right-hand side, and his superb cross to Craig Tate saw the forward put the ball wide.

Tate went close again two minutes later with a snap-shot, as Roofing's strikers continued to miss chances in the opening period.

North Shields pressed after the break, and both Scott McDonald and Paul Gibbs brought good saves from Adam Dowell.

The home side continued to increase the pressure, but Roofing's defence held firm.

And Shields's cause was severely hit when they were reduced to nine men in the last quarter of an hour.

On 80 minutes, Ian Dugdale received a second yellow card, and with five minutes left former Roofer Richard Latimer followed him for an early bath after his second booking.

It wasn't Tate's day, as he headed against the post late on, and then seemed to lose all direction as he tried too hard to get onto the scoresheet.
