DAVID Edgar became the first player to leave St James's Park following Newcastle's relegation when he signed for Burnley today.
The Canadian Under-20 international, who was a free agent after his contract expired yesterday, signed a four-year deal at Turf Moor.
Because the 22-year-old was out of contract, no tranfer fee will be payable, but the Magpies will be entitled to compensation, due to his age and the fact he was a product of the club's youth system.
Edgar - whose Jarrow-born father Eddie was Newcastle's reserve goalkeeper in the 1970s - had been with the club since he was 14.
He will be best-remembered for scoring a spectacular equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on his home debut.
But he became frustrated at the lack of first-team football, starting only seven games last season, and scoring one goal.
